Boating Classes Slated For Winter-Spring 2008Flotilla 20-02 of the Morehead City Coast Guard Auxiliary has announced the fall schedule for one-day classes and seminars offered to the public.All classes will be taught by certified personnel of the auxiliary. Classes will begin at 8:30 a.m. at Carteret Community College Student Union Building at 3505 Arendell St., Morehead City.NC 28557Pre-registration is required. America’s Boating CourseMarch 22 April 19 This Begining boating class will provide one with the knowledge necessary for safety certification. Many boating insurance companies will offer discounts to boaters who successfully complete the course. Topics include regulations, safety equipment, aids to navagation. Troubleshooting and fueling. Following completion of the course two additional units of study may be taken: (1)Local Knowledge and (2) Rules of the Road (LK/RD). These units are offered on September 30 - Please note an additional fee is required. Local Knowledge/Rules of the Road (ABC+LK/RD)March 29 April 26 Two additional units of study requiring successful completion of ABC or knowlege of boating by the participant. Topics inclue the following: History of Morehead City, Beaufort, Down East, etc. Including study of charts used in these areas, dangerous areas, fishing hot spots, conduct of vessels, lights and shapes, distress signals and much more. This four-hour seminar and is designed specifically for boaters who are not normally at the helm and who, because of unexpected circumstances must bring the boat back safely to port and or take command.
